A local business is going all out to support the Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ on 26th September by giving away free coffee to their customers.

Lytham Coffee Co is encouraging all of their cafe, restaurant and hotel clients to get involved by offering to replace all of the coffee they sell that day for free. In the run up to the event they will be spreading the word through their website, Twitter and Facebook to encourage as many people grab a coffee and donate to Macmillan.

Jeremy Smith from Lytham Coffee Co said ‘It’s seems a bit obvious that we should be supporting it given that coffee is our business, to be honest we feel a bit daft that we didn’t realise this a lot sooner!’

MacMillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning started in 1990 with a local fundraising group who decided to hold a coffee morning where people came along to meet and mingle, as they might normally do, but donate the cost of their coffee and cakes to Macmillan. That seed of an idea has grown to become an nationwide event that has raised over £113 million through coffee mornings in homes, offices and businesses throughout the UK.

‘Cafe Culture has become such an established part of our world so this is a great way to fundraise. There is no doubt that the growth in ‘proper’ coffee has driven this popularity as more and more people experience the range of fantastic flavours and realise that instant coffee just can’t measure up to it.’ said Smith. ‘There can’t be an easier way of fundraising for this great charity than by sitting down on 26th September and taking a break from the rush of modern life with friends or colleagues. It’s a lot less effort than a marathon. ’
